Friday this week will be the 91st anniversary of the execution of the Russian ex-Emperor Nikolaj II, his consort Aleksandra Fyodorovna and their five children as well as the three employees who were with them to the end. Yesterday a memorial mass was held for them in the Cathedral of Saints Pyotr and Pavel in St Petersburg, where they were also laid to rest in 1998.Present at the mass were, among others, the new patriarch of the Russian-Orthodox Church, Kirill I, St Petersburg’s governor, Valentina Matviyenko, and, representing the family, Olga Kulikovsky-Romanoff, widowed daughter-in-law of Grand Duchess Olga Aleksandrevna, Nikolaj II’s youngest sister.
