Today is the 33rd birthday of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. As the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel are still on honeymoon following their wedding on 19 June, the birthday girl will for the first time not attend the public celebrations at Borgholm near the summer palace Solliden at Öland.
The public celebrations of her birthday began already in 1978 and it has since then been a tradition that the members of the royal family attend some sort of concert where a grant from the Victoria Foundation is presented to an athlete.
King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine will however attend this year’s celebrations and Prince Carl Philip will present the award in place of his absent sister.
A trivial detail, but Barometern claims it's the second time Victoria has missed the day's festivities, while this blog post quotes Svensk Damtidning as saying it's the sixth time. One wonders what the earlier absences were for (and how a festival sprung up around a 1-year-old girl's birthday...).
ReplyDeleteOne fascinating fact, in a way, is that it has never rained on Øland on this particullar day as long as Victoria has celebratede her day here. Monica
ReplyDeleteHmm...I have been unable to find any information on Svensk Damtidning's website about her being absent five times previously. I would expect that magazine normally to have check on such things, but I find it odd that she should have been absent so many times - the royal family is always at Solliden at that time of the year, but of course illness or similar things may have come in the way occasionally.
