The Norwegian Parliament today voted to abolish its Defence Committee, a change which will come into effect on 1 October. The Defence Committee (formerly called the Military Committee) is the oldest of Parliament's 13 standing committees, dating from 1815, the year after Norway became independent. From October there will be 12 committees and defence issues will be dealt with by the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
